HLTFA404 - Apply Advanced Resuscitation Techniques

Outcome:
This module will provide participants with the skills and knowledge
to understand the safety requirements when handling an Automatic
External Defibrillator (AED), as well as the skills to use an AED
within the first few minutes of a cardiac arrest, as well as the
skills and knowledge to safely perform oxygen therapy and resuscitation
in the workplace.
Entry Requirements:
This unit should be assessed after achievement of one or more of
the following related competency units:
- HLTFA301B - Apply First Aid
- HLTCPR201A - Perform CPR
- HLTFA201A - Provide Emergency Life Support
In general, it is recommended that persons using advanced resuscitation
techniques have completed HLTFA301B - Apply First Aid.

Qualification:
It is important that you attend each session of this course so that
you are eligible to receive a Statement of Attainment.
Your nationally recognised qualification will be accredited by the
Victorian Qualifications Authority and entered on the National Training
Information Service, recognised by the Victorian WorkCover Authority
under their 'First Aid in the Workplace' code of practice (1995),
aswell as the Tasmanian Department of Infrastructure, Energy and
Resources (Workplace Standards Tasmania).
Your nationally qualification will be valid for 1 year.
Competencies to be achieved during the
training:
At the successful completion of this course you will be able to:
1. Explain why early defibrillation and the 'chain of survival'
are essential and explain the structure and function of the heart.
2. Manage a cardiac arrest using an Automated External Defibrillator
(AED).
3. Demonstrate safe procedures when using medical oxygen equipment.
4. Demonstrate the administration of oxygen therapy to a spontaneously
breathing patient.
5. Demonstrate the resuscitation of a non-breathing casualty using
ventilation, self-inflating bag & mask, and a manual oxygen
powered resuscitator.
Assessment Procedure:
Assessment will be conducted during nd at the end of the course
to demonstrate to your instructor that you have the required knowledge
and skills of the procedures necessary to manage a life threatening
situation prior to the arrival of medical aid.
This process will consist of:
- Theory Assessment completed either online or workbook assessment
requiring satisfactory completion of all questions.
- Skills competencies demonstrating competency in all skills as
detailed above conducted in off the job environment simulating work
conditions whenever possible.
Students with identified language, literacy, and numeracy deficits
will be offered an oral assessment if required. Students must demonstrate
competency in all sections to qualify for a statement of attainment.
Facilities & Equipment:
Each participant will be provided with all of the intellectual materials
required to study all modules. Each program will also be supported
with adequate Teaching Aids to assist with the theory and practical
training modules such as CPR manequins, bandages, visual aids, handouts
etc as appropriate. |
